It’s me Spencer guys.
I’m not sure how many people will be listening to us,
Spencer: Yeah you guys are probably is out there busy buying buying buying.
Jenny: Right because that’s what this day is a bout.
Spencer: Consumerism.
Spencer: Yeah, I remember that.
Spencer: Oh yeah that’s so-called Singles’ Day.
Spencer: Double Eleven.
Jenny: 双十一 Double Eleven.
a b
Spencer: Ah yeah you to say November eleventh.
Jenny: OK.
Spencer: It’s the world’s biggest shopping day. Ah no surprise because China has the world’s biggest everything so…
后来我们让美国人大吃一惊no no no no no。It’s our day.
Spencer: Well this is true. It is definitely bigger, um and I can understand you know wanting to be how to say you know, labeled as a category of your own, it’s kind of just a way of having people in the West understand what this day actually does.
And that’s saying in the end of November, right?
Spencer: Yes so it’s basically the day after thanksgiving. It’s, it’s if I may, if I may be a little critical here, I wonder what 吐槽一下, ah Black Friday I think is really ridiculous because the day before is thanksgiving,
Jenny:
Spencer: Yes 感恩节, and that is the day where we sit around and we tell everyone what we’re thankful for “I’m thankful for this,” and “I’m thankful for that.”
对吧thankful for my family…
Spencer: And then, and then come four o’clock in the morning the day after people rush out to stores to buy what they can for to get those low low deals, it just doesn’t make any sense,
Jenny:
Spencer: It’s very hypocritical I must say. But, that’s my little spiel*1, ah we can move along here let’s talk about this 双十一 shall we Jenny?
xxx double whammy*2*3,
Spencer: Got, got uh get that China money, says the Western companies. “There’s a lot of people in China, you know I’d like if I could just get a little business from there and make a lot of money.”
I’m I’m forgetting it Cyber Monday.
Spencer: Oh guy I forget about it.
Jenny: 电商。
Spencer: I I don’t, I don’t, I said I don’t shop on any these days personally Jenny, but it’s me, so I had forgot about it as well.
Spencer: Is the date it’s, it’s after Black Friday?
Spencer: If you’re too tired from shopping all weekend, but you still want to buy things, get on your computer on Cyber Monday to get those deals.
Jenny: Ah these shopping bonanzas*4*5
Spencer: XXX spend your money. You know another day that’s really big for shopping in Ch, ah in America Jenny?
Jenny: Christmas?
Spencer: The day after Christmas.
Jenny: 哦对,Boxing Day.
Spencer: Yeah well we don’t really have Boxing Day in America but the day after Christmas, everyone goes to the mall to return the gift. So it is like...
Spencer: And then they end up buying things that are really cheap after Christmas, meh*6.
Spencer: No, we would use the word “bonanza”.
Jenny: Bonanza.
Jenny: I like that word bonanza.
Jenny:
Spencer: Yeah there’s actually old TV show about cowboys called Bonanza and had music like just…
Spencer: Yeah.
Spencer: Yeah, I don’t know you hear the word is like you this one and go crazy say “bonanza!”
Jenny: Speaking of crazy疯狂的这个shopping啊。
Spencer: OK crazy deals.
Jenny: Oh so you can actually use the word crazy to this time.
Spencer: That you can crazy deals, crazy discounts, crazy sales, you know.
Jenny: OK sales 对.
Spencer: Crazy prices “you can’t beat these crazy prices.”
Right? “I got this crazy deal,” “I got a great deal” on something.
Spencer: Yeah that’s right so deal is just like it’s it’s when you make a deal.
Spencer: 啊对, if something is a deal, if you use it as a 形容词, something that deal just means yeah 划算 cheap and affordable.
Spencer: Ah doorbuster deals. You could say that; it’s a doorbuster.
Jenny: 因为就是大家会去商店然后把那商店门都挤破了to get those crazy deals。所以有个说法叫to get those doorbuster deals.
Spencer: Yeah that’s right.
因为我说有一些deals it’s only available on Double Eleven.
Spencer: That’s right so you got to you got to really like kind of take advantage of that time and get those exclusive deals.
Jenny: Oh exclusive deals. Exclusive
Spencer: Yeah exactly exclusive.
Jenny: 好。那现在的双十一呢,在中国各大电视上网站的leading e-commerce sites, or I think any business is you know jumping on the bandwagon*9 their part of 双十一,而且现在很多海外的品牌对吧,在双十一也来卖东西给我们。
Spencer: Yeah that’s right because well the the Chinese consumer market is big, and so we now have tons of domestic and global brands.
Spencer: That’s right 不错.
First of November leading up to双十一就开始你要做准备了。
Spencer: Yeah that’s right and then everything flies off the shelf*10.
Jenny: Wow, flies off the shelf.
Spencer: That’s right.
Spencer: Oh really, I didn’t I didn’t know that. I guess I’ve never bought that much one time. I’m I’m a I’m a less more simple guy, if I listen to xxx
Jenny: So can you say your shopping cart is going to explode?
Spencer: Umm, you could, you could, we usually to say shopping carts full, it’s crammed*11, you know because you’re putting stuff in to a shopping cart, but you could say explode.
Jenny: 对然后他就是你you got it you know say those things in your shopping cart first, 然后双十一的you know twelve o’clock midnight就开始要抢啊、要秒杀啊。
Spencer: Ah you may need to beat the clock*12.
Jenny: Exactly beat the clock and beat the other consumers.
Spencer: Um, that’s right.
Jenny: Beat the clock
Spencer: So this is one example where in China 早睡早起 does not pay off. You got to stay up*14 late.
Jenny:
Spencer: OK so popular products.
Jenny:
Spencer: So like fashion?
Jenny: Ah clothes, right?
Spencer: Clothing.
Spencer: That’s right clothing. Yeah you get, well you could say either like “I’m going to go buy some clothes,” “I’m going to go buy some clothing,” but, yeah.
Spencer: My favorite: cosmetics and skin care.
Spencer: I don’t think I use it enough. If you guys have any good suggestions, let me know.
Jenny: Now you don’t really need it. 就开开filter of xxx
Spencer:
Spencer: I like skin products or,
Jenny: Skin care products.
Spencer: Yeah skin care products.
Jenny: 好呢美妆说完了以后,我们来说说电子产品which is also huge.
Spencer: Electronics for all you techies out there.
Jenny: Electronics
Spencer: Basically anything is electric.
Spencer: For yeah, more more more specifically, you know we use this term for computers, phones, uh you know gadgets that word gadgets.
Spencer: That’s right.
Spencer: So food and snacks.
Spencer: Um, really.
Jenny: Yeah.
Spencer: Maybe maybe I should check it out. I am I’m I’m well, I am big on*15 food so, that might be food.
Spencer: You know actually I don’t think that I have from what I’ve seen I don’t really see too many good deals for protein powder on a lot of those sites I actually but.
Jenny: 哇you crazy当然有。
Spencer: I’ll have to have to go ahead and look again.
Jenny: Spencer you need to stock up.
Spencer: Oh I need to stock up, I need to spend spend spend shop shop shop.
Jenny: 团货,嗯。To stock up on something就是称它便宜的团一点,对吧。
Spencer: That’s right.
I always stocked up on diapers on双十一。
Spencer: 对 definitely need to stock up on diapers.
Jenny: 好,但是呢,那么多的after all these buy buy buy?
Spencer: Comes the low low lows, right? It’s like a it’s like a shopping hangover, you know what I mean?
Jenny: 真的。
Spencer: “Oh men, what happened, where’s my money go, oh shxx,” you know we call that breaking the bank*16.
Jenny: Breaking the bank就这bank不是银行。
Spencer: Yes so these, these days you know maybe you to stock up on a bunch of stuff, but you found out you burned a hole in your wallet*17.
Jenny: You burned a hole in your wallet.
Spencer: That’s right.
What a disaster.
Spencer: That’s right that’s the some buyer’s remorse. I, so I I you know if you guys about buy stuff go for it, I do think you should not do it on a credit card to make sure you’re spending your own money.
Jenny: I agree. 不要,挨近英文可以说put it on a credit card.
Spencer: Yeah put it on a credit.
Jenny:
Spencer: Exactly.
Jenny: Put it on, 是吧.
Spencer: Don’t don’t spend money you don’t have to buy things you don’t need; it’s a rule numero uno*18.
Jenny: 嗯,rule number one。
Spencer: Rule number one.
Jenny: Don’t go too crazy guys, don’t go too bananas on 双十一.
Spencer: Yeah. I mean I know there’s some crazy deals out there but it doesn’t mean you need to go crazy yourself.
Spencer:
Jenny, how could you, oh.
Jenny:
I’m sure you’ll, I’m sure you’ll find the price, and I’m sure we’ll, I’m sure we’ll be a doorbusting deal,
Jenny:
Jenny: It’s priceless, it is.
Spencer: It is, it is, I actually agree. So if there’s anything that’s worth like you know investing in, uh you know it’s your it’s your wisdom in it’s your future. And so you know we kind of help you here with that at 开言英语.
