| Jenny: | Oh you do. |
| Adam: | I sure do. And I work at the best place to work, |
| Jenny: | Wow. |
| Adam: | And, did I mention the happiest place to work? |
| Jenny: | 对啊，开言英语就是一个这么好的大家庭啊。 |
| Adam: | That’s right. |
| Jenny: | 可惜我们没有拿到全美最佳雇主的奖项。 |
| Adam: | Oh that’s OK that nobody asked us maybe maybe next time they will ask us. |
| Jenny: | 而且我们也不在美国。 |
| Adam: | Ugh. |
| Jenny: | 好，那我们今天的节目呢，因为现在这个年底嘛，然后新年要到了。如果你在新年看一些新的机会的话，希望今天的节目可以inspire大家，找一个好的公司就好的公司是zhang什么一样的。And最近美国有一个网站，它是做很多的comparison评比然后那个网站叫Comparably。 |

| Jenny: | 每年他们都会评美国最佳的workplace。 |
| Adam: | Umm. |
| Jenny: | The best place to work in the United States. |
| Adam: | Right. |
| Jenny: | 那今年荣获这一项殊荣的呢，这个公司是我们中国人开的。而且这个founder创始人是我们山东老乡*1。 |
| Adam: | Oh nice. And this company of course is Zoom. |

| Jenny: | Z-o-o-m. 诶，其实Zoom我们每天都用Zoom跟北京的同事开会。 |
| Adam: | Uh-huh, yeah it’s it’s huge it’s very very very popular. |
| Jenny: | 所以它是一个video conferencing products。 |
| Adam: | Right. |
| Jenny: | 我还记得以前入册Skype的年代，对吧。然后，后来各种各样什么WebEx。 |
| Adam: | Yeah. |
| Jenny: | 现在好像比较主流很受欢迎的就是这个Zoom。 |
| Adam: | Yeah I’ve used Zoom, of course at work, but uh for many other things outside of work as well, and I was always just really impressed by how slick*2 and smooth it was. |
| Jenny: | 对，我也觉得它很smooth就是用其他的软件上可能有点卡*3的话Zoom都不太会卡。诶其实我们听众可能也有很多在公司里面啊，或者个人生活会用Zoom。好呢今天教跟大家分享怎么会有这么好的产品呢，关键是这个公司很好队员工很好。员工就work hard，是不是。 |
| Adam: | Make sense. |
| Jenny: | 好呢讲这个公司有多好之前啊，我们还是来看看前面说到的几个词来形容you know your company，你的雇主啊。 |
| Adam: | OK, so here we’re talking about the employer. |
| Jenny: | 所以一个employer是一个公司是吧，不是你的boss不是一个人？ |
| Adam: | Depends. Right? It depends on the company. Well, a company can be your employer or a person can be your employer. Whoever pays your salary is your employer. |
| Jenny: | 对, and if you work there, you are an employee. |
| Adam: | An employee exactly. But if you have a manager, for example, well, the manager is also an employee of someone. |
| Jenny: | 对对对。 |
| Adam: | So you know your manager is NOT your employer. |
| Jenny: | 嗯。其实employer这个词啊，也会用在比如best employer, Employer of the Year美国评选这个奖项常常会用到这个词。那另外Adam前面也说什么best place to work. |
| Adam: | Right. |
| Jenny: | 这个就是很口语很形象的。 |
| Adam: | Yeah this is just a this is what you’ll see and you know People magazine or something “well talk about that top ten best places to work.” |
| Jenny: | 对。现在还有Happiest Place to Work。 |
| Adam: | Happiest place to work. |
| Jenny: | 最快乐的最幸福的工作地方啊。 |
| Adam: | Right. |
| Jenny: | 但还有一个单词叫workplace，是吗。 |
| Adam: | Yeah workplaces are very very common word, and it also commonly matches with lots of other words like uh workplace satisfaction, workplace safety. |
| Jenny: | 对对对。所以workplace意思很好理解了，但就是搭配和有点不一样。 |
| Adam: | Right. |
| Jenny: | 好的。那我们今天分享这个Zoom所得的奖呢，这个奖台叫Happiest Place to Work。然后Zoom他们一年都会在另外一个奖叫Employees’ Choice，员工选择奖。其就也说它是很好的一个公司吗。 |
| Adam: | Yeah sure but this is also a really good pattern for naming awards, is also very famous award in America called the People’s Choice. But then there’s also Teen’s Choice and it could be like anyone’s choice awards. |
| Jenny: | 对就大家很喜欢它。哎但说到 you know what makes a place happiest place to work. |
| Adam: | Umm. Well according to Comparably, I can I just say why did they choose the name Comparably. It’s a pretty difficult name. |
| Jenny: | 有点难。 |
| Adam: | A little bit. But they say that the the biggest factors here that make people really happy of course compensation. |
| Jenny: | 啊compensation就是your salary。 |
| Adam: | Its most basic level is you are compensated for your time. |
| Jenny: | 啊，对，就你的工资啊。哎，compensation和包括一些福利吗？ |
| Adam: | Not really because we see later on the list perks and benefits? |
| Jenny: | 噢，那个就是福利。 |
| Adam: | I think that if you said like my compensation includes my benefits, that’s OK, but according to Comparably they’re different things. So let’s go with their distinction here. |
| Jenny: | 啊，然后当然还有职场的you know professional development, uh career path是不是有一个明确的职业晋升空间啊，但另外一些软性的东西很重要。比如说工作生活平衡， |
| Adam: | Yes, work-life balance is huge for many people. |
| Jenny: | 对另外呢还有这个公司整体的文化。 |
| Adam: | Yes the overall culture. |
| Jenny: | 嗯。好，其实这个网站它会有一些问题啊，就是说我们怎么去survey，调查员工所以你喜不喜欢这家公司。Some of the questions I think a pretty telling*4. |
| Adam: | Yeah sure like one is “Are your company’s goals clear? And are you invested in them?” |
| Jenny: | 啊就公司的目标对不对goals，是不是清晰？ 然后，are you invested in them, invest投资的意思吗？ |
| Adam: | It sure is. But you can also invest your time, and your energy which is what you are investing into a company. |
| Jenny: | 这是你的投入程度啊，非常投入。呃还有一个问题我觉得挺好就是说，你会不会推荐你朋友来这家公司做工作？ |
| Adam: | Yeah, yeah, on a scale of one to ten how likely are you to recommend your company to a friend. |
| Jenny: | 对，这我就觉得是停用揭示性very telling吗。 |
| Adam: | Yeah, so for me, it’s always been the opposite; I’ve always tried to keep my friends away because I want this job. That I don’t want them to steal it from me. |
| Jenny: | Oh OK. So I’ll take that as a compliment. |
| Adam: | Yeah, yeah yeah yeah. |
| Jenny: | 啊所以你认可*5公司哈。 |
| Adam: | Yeah I am very protective. |
| Jenny: | OK. Are you proud to be a part of your company? |
| Adam: | That’s the reason why I don’t why don’t want some other idiot to come in and take my job? I’m very proud to be here. |
| Jenny: | 你每天起床 are you excited about coming to work every day? |
| Adam: | Ah......。 |
| Jenny: | 哎呀。 |
| Adam: | Every day you know I mean if if the question was “Are you typically excited about going to work on most days?” In other words they have cars but of course you know every day, come on. |
| Jenny: | 对因为每天每个人自己的情绪也不一样。 |
| Adam: | Right exactly. |
| Jenny: | 好的 last question. “Do you like interacting with your coworkers?” |
| Adam: | Oh my coworkers are the best. |
| Jenny: | 真的吗？ |
| Adam: | They’re the best. |
| Jenny: | 我也真的很喜欢我们的同事。我也觉在开言很奇妙的时呃我们的背景，虽然不太一样but we’re somehow quite like-minded*6 in many ways，还是一个凝聚力很强的地方。就大家都很， |
| Adam: | On the same page*7. |
| Jenny: | 对，on the same page and really passionate about helping people learn English. |
| Adam: | Yes. |
| Jenny: | 对。好。那，带我们和Zoom那么好的公司还有点距离，所以我们现在就想Zoom学习一下。诶，其实我去Zoom的网站看了一下，就它在网站上会写很多公司给你的职业机会啊，jixie，but what really caught my eyes is that Zoom has a happiness crew. |
| Adam: | Oh yeah. |
| Jenny: | 这公司有一个部门叫“员工幸福部门”。 |
| Adam: | Yeah that’s cool I I actually I think we could probably use the happiness crew around here. |
| Jenny: | 对然而他这个部门是干什么的呢？ 就是 our mission is to spread happiness. |
| Adam: | Uh-huh. |
| Jenny: | Amongst our employees. 所以他们会组织什么 Fun Fridays, 然后 Family Days, mostly office parties. |
| Adam: | Yeah. |
| Jenny: | And much more. |
| Adam: | And much more. Yeah I will where where is our happiness crew, Jenny. |
| Jenny: | 最主要我们在温哥华只有五个人*8实在规模太小。但我们在国内同事比较多，其实这些事情我们都有啊。 |
| Adam: | Oh. So you saying I should move back over there. |
| Jenny: | Well, it’s your choice. 但 ultimately 我觉得那些 you know happiness or benefits and perks, at the end of the day what really matters is what people be able to grow professionally as well. |
| Adam: | Yeah, and it’s really hard to grow if you have, shall we say less than great leadership team. |
| Jenny: | 啊，就是公司的领导层，决策层，对啊。 |
| Adam: | Right so you know if you have an intelligent empathetic caring team, you know who understands the importance of growing or excelling professionally but also care about our personal life happiness, then you know, that makes us employees feel pretty good. |
| Jenny: | 嗯，这是很好的一个结合啊。其实Zoom的创始人也让我们很骄傲就是he’s from China。而且他不是从小在美国出生长大的。他是在国内读*9完了研究生再到美国的。 |
| Adam: | Oh wow. |
| Jenny: | 嗯，所以就是一个新移民new immigrant一个success story。 |
| Adam: | Umm. |
| Jenny: | 袁征 Eric Yuan. |
| Adam: | OK. |
| Jenny: | 诶，我们前面说WebEx么，就很早期的像Zoom这样的he used to work that。 |
| Adam: | Yeah and it’s a fairly familiar story right? He was making a lot of money there, but he wasn’t really happy. |
| Jenny: | 呃对，他接受采访的时候他说他在WebEx后来已经做到the president of engineering。这个engineering部门的number one。而且，他说“我那个时候传这个工资啊”，一般我们说six figure六位数。就很高了吧。他不仅是six figure, he was earning a salary in the very high six figures, |
| Adam: | Very high six figures, right. |
| Jenny: | 就 almost seven figures. |
| Adam: | Right, because six figures can be a hundred thousand dollars. If you are the president of engineering, uh, at a big company is not a very high salary. |
| Jenny: | 但他说就是虽然工资很高，但是他每天you know every day I woke up, I wasn’t very happy. I didn’t really look forward to going to work. |
| Adam: | Yeah exactly, exactly. And hey, follow the dream and worked out form. |
| Jenny: | 对 so he left a six figure job and followed his heart and became a billionaire. |
| Adam: | Umm. |
| Jenny: | 对因为Zoom现在在全球都发展得很好。然后今年在美国还IPO and their stock price like sky rocket rocketed after the IPO. |
| Adam: | That’s right. |
| Jenny: | 好呢今天节目最后呢，再跟大家分享一位Zoom员工，他写的一个留言一个点评。Hello hi, I work at Zoom. And? |
| Adam: | It’s pretty awesome. I, I want to try and this side what kind of voice to use the “Hi, I work at Zoom, it’s pretty awesome.” |
| Jenny: | 然而他说他们CEO就这个员jiang非常棒啊。 |
| Adam: | A very inspiring CEO. A product that you can really feel good about marketing and selling. |
| Jenny: | 啊就不仅老板很好很能激发大家很inspiring，而且他们做这个产品呢，真正让员工feel good about the product。 |
| Adam: | Yeah, like you can have a really great boss, but still be selling cigarettes or something at the end of the day. |
| Jenny: | 对对对，是是。And then he continues to say that the company is growing really fast, |
| Adam: | Which can be challenging, we all know that, but overall, creates an abundance of both fun and career opportunities. |
| Jenny: | 啊因为公司发展速度非常快，所以员工会有很多的机会啊。 |
| Adam: | Also fun. |
| Jenny: | 对, abundance, abundant opportunities. Abundance是不是很多很多很多。 |
| Jenny: | 好，那最后呢，我们也祝大家在新年里面啊，都有and abundance of fun and career opportunities？ |
